HAPPY 4TH EDITION OF 2016!


Wow! It’s been quite a summer! I have a lot to cover so I’ll be doing my best to do it in 400 characters or less.


First, I hope you’ll join me in thanking Governor Bill Graves, ATA’s President outgoing president, for he and his staff’s leadership in Washington DC. We’ve had a number of tough issues during their tenure and they’ve represented us well. At the same time, I invite you to join me in welcoming ATA’s new President Chris Spears and his staff. I’m confident that there will be no shortage of equally tough issues in our industry’s future and they come fully prepared to meet those challenges that will face us.


A huge shout out to our Trucking Driving Champions that went to Indianapolis to compete in ATA’s National Truck Driving Champions. As State champs they went on to represent their companies and the NTA well, finishing very competitively against the best of the best in our industry. Regardless of where they finished at nationals I’ve already heard many say “practice for 2017” begins for them today! I’m happy to report that Toby Kort of Fedex Freight finished first in a tight competition, that I understand had five tie breaking runs to allow him to come out on top. In addition, we’re very proud to congratulate Officer Ben Schropfer of the Nebraska State Patrol Carrier Enforcement for his first place finish in their competition both on the state and at the Nationals in Indianapolis. Great job to all of you that competed on the state level and your Nebraska Truck Driving Championships leadership committee is already planning on how to make our 2017 competition bigger and better.


With our recent SuperTech Diesel Technician challenge behind us we will be sending our Nebraska state champion to the national competition at ATA’s TMC annual meeting in Raleigh, N.C. September 18–22. Te winner of our state competition was Mike Paitz from the Truck Center Companies in Omaha. Congratulations to you, Mike and good luck in Raleigh! I would also like to thank the more than 100 competitors that took the qualifying ASE-style online test. We’ll look forward to you participating again in 2017.


Finally, a quick note to encourage everyone to sign up for this year’s Fall Management Conference at the Marriott Regency in Omaha. We’ve got a great line up for learning, networking and fun.
