effects.” For example, local trucking will benefit because, at least for the time being, no rail lines are going to be used. Feed and materials will have to be shipped by truck, as will the processed chicken when it is ready to be taken to market. “Both inputs and outputs, the facility is


going to rely on trucks to do that,” Harry said. Other ripple effects, Harry said, can


possibly include economic growth as suppliers and employers benefit from the new dollars pumped into the economy and the businesses grow accordingly. “It’s an exciting time to be in Eastern-


Central Nebraska,” she said. Te region sold itself as a two-front


opportunity for Costco and Lincoln Premium Poultry, Harry said. First, Fremont is within the sphere of influence of urban Omaha — with access to the city’s amenities and workforce — while, second, it provides the rural necessities, like real estate for the plant and the network of growers. “We were able to show them how they


could plug into all those strengths if they came to Fremont,” Harry said. Costco officials have said they like the area


because of its central U.S. position that will aid shipping and its proximity to feed and grain sources. Te company has 702 warehouse stores with one in Omaha and another under construction in Sarpy County. Te Omaha World-Herald reported that the Fremont plant would slaughter close to 1.6
