Not long after he was anointed king over Israel, David found himself forced into a great showdown with the Philistines. David inquired of the Lord for direction. David was instructed not to make a frontal assault, but to fetch a compass behind them and come upon them against the mulberry trees. The Lord told David to stir himself when he heard the sound of a “going” in the tops of mulberry trees, for then the Lord would go before David to smite the Philistines.
From what we can now tell, there were lava flows caused by seismic breaches and shifts that consumed the Philistines at that confrontation, while the mulberry trees shook from the violence of the earthquake.
THERE ARE TIMES AND SEASONS IN THE LORD. THERE IS A TIME TO MOVE AND A TIME NOT TO MOVE. There is a time to speak and a time to refrain from speaking. As Ecclesiastes wisely observes, to everything there is a time and a season.
We can all have a general awareness of the times in which we live. But if we are going to be effective for the Lord and His Kingdom, we must know what the Lord is saying and inquire of Him before we take on the forces of darkness. Like the churches of John’s Revelation from God, we must have an ear to hear what the Spirit says to the churches.
I believe the Lord is saying this is a time for the Church of Jesus Christ to move out with God as He is moving in the earth. This is not the time to focus on things of the natural. This is not the time to be timid and hesitant. This is not the time to hunker down and batten down the hatches. This is the time to move. This is a time of turmoil, unrest and challenge when great victories can be won by the hand of the Lord.
