At World Missionary Evangelism, we rec- ognize humanitarian projects are of little value if we do not
minister to the eternal soul of man. Jesus said, “FOR WHAT SHALL IT PROFIT A MAN, IF HE SHALL GAIN THE WHOLE WORLD AND LOSE HIS OWN SOUL?” (Mark 8:36) With that mission front and center, evangelism has remained at the core of what we do. Along with sending out Native Missionaries to minister directly to their people, that also means constructing community churches and distributing Bibles.
In villages and small communities of developing nations, a church is not only a holy place to worship, it is a site for finding refuge and help. Congregations use their churches for weekly services, as you would expect. But those facilities provide other forms of community outreach. They often serve as childcare centers, classrooms to educate adults and children, stations to feed the hungry and distribute supplies after natural disasters, beacons to give hope through Jesus to the lost, and secure locations for community gatherings.
It’s hard to convey what it means to Christians in these areas to have a dedicated church building. In some villages, new believers hearing the Gospel for
