LETTER FROM THE BY LAURA SHELTON, CMP

Viva DATIA I

t’s hard to express in words how great it was to see the amazing turnout for DATIA’s 2016 Annual Conference this past April. Given the increased number of sessions, exhibitors, and attendees, there wasn’t a dull moment during the conference. I hope that everyone has had time to process all of the incredibly valuable information gleaned

from speaker sessions and networking with colleagues. DATIA management is already working on making DATIA’s 2017 Annual Conference

to be held next May in Orlando, FL, which promises to be even beter than this year with more diverse session topics. During this month and next, we will be hard at work finalizing the conference agenda and making sure that exhibitors and sponsors have their preferred booths selected. Looking at this issue, I must say that I am impressed by the variety of articles. Tis issue

of DATIA focus features articles writen by conference speakers and sponsors that will elaborate on their conference sessions and messages. What beter way to provide back-to- back education? Also, for those not able to atend the conference our center spread features a select few photos from the conference as well as another great thanks to our generous conference sponsors and exhibitors. Also, I am inspired by the DATIA in Motion article, which outlines some of the key

initiatives that DATIA’s commitees will be working on over the coming year. Tese initiatives include everything from adding new training and educational courses, to creating valuable resources for members that will assist with tackling industry issues such as prescription drug abuse and marijuana legalization. Tese are issues that will affect all DATIA members so our biggest initiative is to continue to advocate for an employer’s right to a safe and drug-free workplace. I trust that you will enjoy this issue of DATIA focus and hope that you find inspiration

from the many articles and topics covered. As always, myself and the rest of the DATIA management team are here to assist all of our DATIA members so please do not hesitate to contact us directly with any issues that you are encountering in your day-to-day duties so that we can help you and the industry succeed. ❚

Best,

Laura Shelton, CMP DATIA Executive Director
