of long-time committee member, is awarded to drivers who have competed or volunteered at the Championships for at least five years and are rated on professionalism, industry knowledge and attitude. Tis year’s award winner is Clint Rast, ABF Freight Systems, Inc. Rast has been a professional driver for 24 years with more than three million miles. He’s participated in the Championships for 14 years and attributes his success to safety and the path he took to get to where he’s at today –


beginning as a school bus driver and moving up to delivery van, panel truck, straight truck and currently tractor trailer. Te Rookie of the Year Award is given


to a first-time participant for having the highest overall score in all four parts of the competition. Tis year, the championships had 26 rookies competing and Ian Franck, Hunt Transportation, Inc. received the award. Franck has been driving for 24 years and attributes his success as a professional driver to the support of his family. Straight Class: David Korkosz, Werner


Enterprises: Korkosz has been competing in the Championships for three years and has been a professional driver for 12 years, accumulating more than one million miles. What he likes most about the Championships is the comradery of the NTA staff, Nebraska State Patrol and drivers; working together as one makes for a great event! Tree-axle Class: Larry Derr, Werner


Enterprises: Derr has driven for Werner Enterprises for 24 years and has a 35-year career as a professional driver. With more than two million accumulated miles, he attributes


his success in taking pride in what he does and wanting to be the best and safest. Derr has competed in the Championships for 15 years. Four-axle Class: Tomas Canning, Old


Dominion Freight Line: Canning has been driving for 41 years with more than 1.5 million accumulated miles. Tis was his fourth year competing and he was introduced to the trucking industry via his family-owned trucking company. Five-axle Class: Toby Kort, FedEx Freight,


Inc. Five-axle sleeper Class: Jeff McKenzie,


Walmart Transportation: Tis was McKenzie’s third year at the Championships; he’s been a professional driver for 25 years and has accumulated three million miles.
