Good Food 

A warm welcome this summer

We Brits like nothing more than heading for the great outdoors – at least, when the weather permits! So, with a bit of luck, some sunshine and a following wind, that’s when our great British pubs with family-friendly beer gardens really come into their own.

Two of this month’s featured pubs are on the outskirts of Maidstone, in the leafy lanes

around Yalding, offering top quality food and drink for all ages to enjoy. If the weather stays true to type, the Tudor Rose at Borden has a light and airy

conservatory where you can shelter from the showers – but also a lovely beer garden for those times when the sun does finally pop out!

If the climate is cool and you are seeking a warm welcome, look no further than The Gem of Kent in Maidstone High Street. Whichever you choose you really can’t go wrong.

The Woolpack Inn, Benover

The Woolpack Inn is a family-friendly country pub in the quiet village of Benover, with a good selection of cask beers, fine wines and home- cooked food. With olde- worlde décor, this historic pub has a traditional restaurant with a friendly and warm atmosphere and beautiful gardens with a play area to enjoy on balmy summer days. The varied menu features top quality meat, fish and vegetarian dishes, made with locally-sourced ingredients. From hearty Sunday roasts to light sandwich lunches and seafood suppers.

There is a children’s menu for little ones and a good selection of delicious desserts for those with a sweet tooth. The pub is perfectly located for passing cyclists and ramblers or for an evening meal with family or friends.

The George, Yalding

The George in Yalding is a beautiful family-run pub situated on the River Beult and can offer fishing facilities for just £10 per person - which includes all day fishing, lunch and a drink!

This popular pub offers a good-sized atmospheric restaurant with varying menus available. As well as traditional Sunday roasts, they offer stone-baked pizzas and light brunches. An excellent value menu is also offered for senior citizens – available Monday to Wednesday. The George enjoys a wonderful, picturesque garden which plays host to barbeques and hog roasts virtually all year round, plus there is a large children’s’ play area to keep the little ones amused. Check the website for all forthcoming events including quiz nights and live entertainment.
