The new website has retained the interactive functions you like most but will be much easier to navigate and find what you are looking for. For the public, there’s lots of useful information

about community and primary care pharmacy plus news, views and the all important Out-of-Hours Rota and Pharmacy Finder.

For UCA member pharmacists, you can log on to the members’ area to access interactive tools such as LocumOnline and MedsFinder. These are quick and effective, easy to use tools which you or delegated staff can use at a time which is convenient to you.

“When I first tried to use the website to post a request on Locum Online I wasn’t quite sure what to do as it was all new to me. Once I went through the steps I found the website quite easy to navigate and posting a request for a locum was a simple process. It is good that we can log on and post at any time of the day instead of having to call between office hours.” Helen Feeny, McKay Pharmacies

current rules, an individual business would need to process more than 20 disclosure checks every year with Access NI, otherwise go through an Umbrella Body.

The criteria for disclosure checks explained: Basic check – any person can apply directly to Access NI for a basic check which they can show a prospective or current employer.

Enhanced check – an employer can apply for an Enhanced Check for Pharmacists working in regulated activity with children or adults. Regulated activity includes the provision of health care by any health care professional (i.e. registered with Pharmaceutical Society of NI).

All community pharmacy staff, who are not regulated health care professionals, are excluded from regulated activity.

It is the responsibility of each individual pharmacy business to assess if an employee’s duties fall into a category requiring a standard or enhanced check.

They should then apply for a disclosure from Access NI. As an Umbrella Body, UCA can guide you through this process and apply for disclosures on your behalf.

For more information on how to apply for an Access NI disclosure check for a member of staff and the fees applicable, UCA members should contact the UCA office.
