Q &A by Author Rev Dada J. P. Vaswani Q: What is heaven and what is A: Heaven and hell are not loca-
hell? Intellectual giants are
many.Men
of purity and prayer are plenty and then there are some who have totally surrendered themselves to God. In Dada J. P. Vaswani, there is a combi- nation of all these qualities, including humility, compassion and love of fel- low creatures. Dada recognizes neither creed,
nor class, nor color. To him, all human beings, aye, all creatures, are the children of the One Mother Divine. He believes in the unity of all races and religions in One Spirit.
Q: Is it necessary to have a
Guru? A: That is for each one of us to
decide. It is said that if you want to be a thief, you must have a thief for a Guru. If you want to be a gambler, you must receive training under an ace-gambler. How much more neces- sary it is to have a Guru if you want to live the life of the Spirit! Q: Is suffering in the world nec-
essary? Do we all have to suffer to grow? A: Suffering is necessary. But a
stage comes when suffering does not make a man suffer. He accepts every experience – pleasant or otherwise— as prasadam (holy sacrament) out of the holy hands of the Lord. Then suf- fering does not make a man suffer. It only makes him evolve. Q: I am just blindly repeating a
mantra. How do mantras help when I don’t understand a word I am saying? A: The meanings of all mantras
need not necessarily be understood. The sounds of certain mantras create vibrations which are helpful to seek- ers on the path. What is needed is that the seeker must repeat the mantra with faith, love and devotion.
tions. Heaven and hell have no address. Heaven and hell are states of the mind. If your mind is happy, if your mind is at peace, if your mind is blessing everyone, you are in heaven. If your mind is agitated, if you have become angry, if you become jealous, if you become envious, if your mind is filled with stress and tension, you are in hell. It is a state of the mind. Heaven and hell are states of mind. Sometimes you are in heaven, some- times you are in hell. Q: Is there a relationship
between science and spirituality? Can science and spirituality ever talk the same language? A: Science is the study of the the external world.
laws of
Spirituality is also a science, but it studies the inner world. Now the time has come where both of them are drawing close to each other. Physics for instance studied the atom, but after quantum physics the atom is asking about who is the one who studied me? So they are coming clos- er. But one is concerned with the outer sphere while the other is con- cerned with the inner sphere. Q: Why was evil created in the
first place? Why can’t we all have clean hearts and souls from the very beginning? A: Evil was not created. In the
beginning, there was only good. But the absence of good is evil. Evil in itself has no existence of its own. Darkness has no existence of its own. Darkness is absence of light. A room may have been in the dark for 100 years. You go and light amatch, a sin- gle match, will remove the darkness. The darkness will not tell you - I have lived here for 100 years. How can you drive me out immediately? No, darkness has no existence at all. Darkness is only absence of light. Likewise, evil is only absence of good. Q: I have forgiven my friend for
cheating me, but I cannot forget his cheating me.What should I do? A: It is said that forgiveness is
healing the wound and forgetting is taking off the scar. If you want the scar to remain with you, you can keep
on remembering it. But, if you want to do away with the scar also, you must try and forget. Q:What is one simple exercise I
can do to elevate myself? A: Clasp God to your heart and
let your hands be busy doing as much good as you can, to as many as you can, in as many ways as you can. Q: What is the one thing we can
do today to begin our journey to joy, love and good health? A: Practical Suggestions No. 1:
Get up in themorning with a smile on your face and the words, “Good Morning, Lord!” on your lips. No. 2: See that your face always
wears a smile. No. 3: Give a hearty laugh at
least three times everyday ~ once before breakfast, once before lunch and once before dinner. No. 4:Develop a healthy sense of
humor. No. 5: Learn to laugh at yourself. No. 6: Always look at the bright
side of things. No. 7: Be sure that God is in
charge of the universe. He is the con- troller of the destinies of individuals and
nations. And nothing can ever go wrong. No. 8: Be in the driver’s seat at
all times. No. 9: If you would be happy,
make others happy. The happiness that goes out of you to others, comes back to you. Such is the law! Therefore, do at least one good deed of service everyday. ~Burn anger before anger burns
