Eating Disorders: Treat with Hypnosis by Dorothy Whitton RN, MSN, Cht.
Overeating, binge eating, anorexia,
bulimia, are often seen as illnesses that are out of our control. Over time, we feel burdened by the way we view and badger ourselves. We're frustrated and defeated before we can even start the day. We have been usingfood as an emotional booster to our everyday lives. We don't like the way we feel about ourselves; we are overwhelmed by the stress that we encounter and have always used food to com- fort ourselves. We are depressed. Using food as a coping mechanism has worked so far. However, statistics show us that we are slow- ly hurting and devastating our bodies. This obsession with food allows us to avoid com- municating our feelings of hurt, betrayal, abuse, and whatever else we've experienced that has defeated us and allowed us to hurt our bodies. We are now in a position to take charge of our lives, and stop the self damaging behavior of using or avoiding food to make us feel better. We can start each day by commu- nicating our feelings to others we can trust. First, we can trust ourselves, and allow us to accept ourselves wholeheartedly just the way we are right now. Beginning today, we will commit to healthy eating patterns, with food that will nourish our bodies. Most of us know what to eat, we just don't know what to say. Start a journal, speak to a trusted friend, and allow yourself to feel the feelings and use hypnosis as a tool to communicate to your subconscious changes that you've been wanti- ng, but have not been able to achieve. Begin the day with a walk, eat small,
healthy frequent meals, with plenty of water. No longer do you need to live in secrecy, silently screaming for love, help, and support. Eating disorders masks our fear, shame, vul- nerabilities. It's about subconsciously inter- nalizing the western model of beauty. It's about the emotional pain we cannot allow our- selves to feel. This is unconscious. Now, you are the director of your life, you can make these changes that will manifest itself as the you, in the healthiest state of mind and body. Only you can make the decision to choose to be healthy, and express your feelings without food as the comforter. Along with your own
power to do this alone, you can use hypnosis to help you to facilitate your goal. Hypnosis will allow you to reach your subconscious to make these changes in behav- iors, and patterns so that food is not your choice for calming or communicating your feelings. Hypnosis uses verbal repetition and mental images, with positive suggestions thatmake a strong impression on the mind. You are in a state of inner absorption and concentration, with your attention highly focused. You are more receptive to suggestions, including behavioral changes and images as related to food and body image. This old technique has again begun to be recognized as a strongmoti- vator for change. Believing is seeing. Living each day, using positive affirmations, writing in a journal, talking to a trusted friend, self care techniques that are healthy, walking, and socializing with people who are supportive all are parts of the equation for manifesting your ideal body weight, and managing and coping in positive ways with everyday experiences. Hypnosis will reinforce, and help empower you to stay on track. It will boost your confi- dence and beliefs so that you can fulfill your desire with the necessary actions imprinted in your subconscious mind. Hypnosis addresses the emotional issues that have been sabotag- ing your best efforts. With a trusted, compas- sionate therapist, you fill be healthier and hap- pier, reaching your expectations.
