offroad bikes POLICE targeted nuisance vehicles in woodlands and on footpaths. Operation Gasket saw more po-

lice, including the off-road bike team, on the North Downs from Blue Bell Hill to Bredhurst. A section 59 warning of intention

to seize the vehicle if there are fur- ther reports of antisocial riding was issued to a quad bike rider caught in Roots Wood (just off of Sindals Lane) and the riders/drivers of a number of other nuisance vehicles were spoken to. Onanother occasion, a member of

the public supplied the registration number of one of two vehicles and three bikes at a site next to the M2. The police called the company that owned the vehicle and PCSO Matt Adlington spoke to the driver. PCSOAdlington said: “The public

will hopefully continue to supply us with relevant information sowe can target the nuisance drivers. “The area that these vehicles ac-

cess is huge, so the public’s support is vital. They should ring 101 when they see illegal use of woodlands and footpaths as this is both danger- ous and destructive.”

Election date

THREE councillors are not standing for re-election on May 5. They are Ann Spain MBE (see

page 62), Geoff Smithwhojoined the council in 1998 but has now moved out of the parish and Martin Hinch- liffe who is involved in community service elsewhere in Maidstone. The parish council wishes them allwell. However an election will be held

in the NorthWard where there are more candidates standing than seats available. As there are still vacancies in the SouthWard, any parishioner wishing to be considered for co-op- tion at the council meeting on June 6 should contact the clerk.

Report lier THE parish council has noted an in- crease in flytipping, litter and pot- holes and is encouraging residents to report incidents to Maidstone Bor- ough Council via itswebsite. Potholes should be registered with

KCC Highways via theirwebsite so that they can take advantage of gov- ernment money being awarded to KCC to councils for road repairs.

32 Maidstone East May 2016 Call for yellow lines at junction

THE parish council has approached KCC leader Cllr Paul Carter about using his devolved highway budget to install yellow lines at road junctions on ProvenderWay. Concerns have been expressed over a number of years about inconsid-

erate parking in the area, particularly when audiences are attending events at The Maidstone Studios.

Council offers advice on considerate parking

AS the parish council has been re- ceiving numerous complaints about inconsiderate parking, it is asking all drivers to be more aware of the danger and incon- venience this can cause to chil- dren and residents. Please be aware of the following:

 Emergency vehicles must be allowed access at all times. Yours could be the property they need to get to. Please therefore look at where you’ve parked to see if you’ve left enough space for an emergency vehicle to get through.

 If possible don’t park opposite other vehicles as this could impede an emergency vehicle by causing a “chicane” effect.  If you park a commercial or other large vehicle at your home, please try to park it on your drive as the extra width causes problems on the highway.  DO use driveways, garages, and front areas. If you have one, please use it and get your vehi- cle(s) off the highway. Make sure everyone in the family is aware of the problems.

Try to work out a parking scheme to fully use your driveway. Arrange parking so that the first person leaving in the morning is the last car on the drive. They are then less likely to park in the road.  DON’T block other people’s driveways. This just compounds the problem. Be considerate and do not overhang any of the driveway – other vehicles may not be as manoeuvrable as yours.  DON’T park across cyclepaths, dropped kerbs or footways.

Scouts talk

CLLR Kaz Macklin reported on her visit to a Grove Green Scouts meet- ing on behalf of the parish council. Shewas impressed by the young people’s knowledge of Boxley Parish Council and its work. They asked whether a junior park

run could be organised in the Weavering Jubilee Orchard and parish clerk Pauline Bowdery will produce a report on whether this is possible for consideration at a fu- ture meeting. They also asked for an additional storage facility, which it is understood is in hand.

School fayre

RESIDENTS can find out more about the work of the parish coun- cil at St John’s CE Primary School, Grove Green on Saturday, 14 May where parish councillors will be running a stand at the annual school fayre.

Concern over Thames Crossing options

PARISH councillors expressed con- cerns about Maidstone Council’s re- sponse to the Highways England consultation on options for the Lower Thames Crossing route. They noted that the borough council favoured option C, linking the M25 in Essex with the A2/M2 junction at Shorne, stating that it considers this route has the potential to unlock greater regional economic benefits than the two other alterna-

tives. While in its opinion the pro- posal would have no direct impact on the borough, it could result in economic growth. Boxley Council also favours op-

tion C, but in its response to High- ways England, it drew attention to the impact on areas which would be affected by the increase in vehicles using the junctions at the top and bottom of Blue bell Hill to access the M20 from the M2 and vice versa.

Parish Cllr Bob Hinder said: “Has Maidstone Council taken into ac- count that Highways England states in the consultation document that it does not intend to undertake any al- terations or work here? “This cannot be a good thing for

the borough.” Borough ward Cllr Derek Butler

agreed to report the parish council’s concerns to Maidstone Borough Council.
