THE political parties have been setting out their stalls ahead of the Maidstone Council elections. Up for grabs on Thursday, May 5


will be one post for each of the 19 wards contested this time around – a third of the seats on the council. Several long-standing councillors

Cllr Ian Chittenden, a borough councillor in South ward for the past 10 years, is stepping down for health reasons, although he plans to continue as county councillor for the North East Division. He said the biggest challenge had


been problems relating to housing development applications in the south of Maidstone and the inher- ent increase in traffic congestion.
