INDUSTRY NEWS Global Bioenergies co-operates with Audi I
n a statement jointly issued in Evry, France, and Ingolstadt, Germany, on 4 January, 2016, Global Bioenergies (Alternext Paris: ALGBE) and Audi announced the signing of a new collaboration agreement to further broaden the feedstock fl exibility of Global Bioen- ergies’ Isobutene process. The two companies recently announced the delivery by Global Bioenergies to Audi of the fi rst batch of isobutene-derived isooctane,
a premium drop-in fuel for petrol engines. Global Bioenergies had pro- duced isobutene using its pilot plant located on the agri-business site of Pomacle, France. The isobutene was then shipped to Germany and converted into isooctane. The initial collaboration, expected to end in 2016, also encompasses the delivery of larger batches that will allow Audi to run comprehensive engine testing and thus validate the specifi cations of Global Bioenergies’ isooctane.
EPC elects fi rst Board
Taking the opportunity of the Progetto Fuoco fair in Verona, Italy, the European Pellet Council (EPC) held elections for its fi rst Board of Directors. As a result, Eric Vial, Director of Propellet France, was appointed as EPC’s new President. Following his election, Mr Vial claimed, “It is undeniable that pellets have a major role to play in any future energy mix scenario. The European Pellet Council
will reinforce its commitment to advocate for this at European level as I truly believe that pellets can provide environmental and societal benefi ts. On the other hand, we will continue to work on the improvement of the quality standards of the pellet heating industry”.

Vice-President. According to him, “The pellet industry is currently facing several challenges. EPC
The company will use its dem- onstration plant, presently under construction on the site of the Leuna refi nery, to produce these batches. Reiner Mangold, Head of Sustain- able Product Development at Audi, declared: “The two principal next steps we see on the path towards commercialisation of Audi e-benzin consist in upscaling Global Bio- energies’ technology towards the demonstration scale, which is on its way in Leuna, as well as ensuring
the technology can work with non- biomass-derived feedstock according to Audi’s e-fuel strategy”. Marc Delcourt, CEO at Global Bioenergies, added: “Isooctane is a premium gasoline, displaying both a high octane rating and a low volatil- ity. Targeting its large scale produc- tion will benefi t from extending our process compatibility to various feedstocks that do not compete with neither the food nor the feed production”.
has a key role to support the development of a sustainable pellet market in Europe – that is why we need to strengthen external and internal co-operation within EPC. That will be my main priority for the next three years”. This election was also an opportunity for EPC to strengthen its Board with three special Directors. These are Christian Rakos from ProPellets Austria, Annalisa Paniz from AIEL and Gordon Murray from WPAC.
