burg, CA. ~ T e Raven Performing Arts T e- ater is excit- ed to bring
you Brighton Beach Memoirs, a hilarious semi-autobiograph- ical play written by Neil Simon. Oy vay - do we have a play for you!
keep coming! T e play revolves around Eugene’s detailed jour- nal of his family’s eccentricities. T e play premiered on Broad-
way at the Alvin T eater, March, 1983, aſt er a pre-Broad- way engagement at T e Curran T eater, San Francisco (yay). It closed in 1986 aſt er nearly 1300 performances. Matthew Broderick played Eugene. Brighton Beach Memoirs was nominated for and won several Tony Awards. T e play was adapted into a movie in 1986. Neil Simon kept
the fun going with Eugene and his nutty family. Biloxi Blues dealt with Eugene’s armed service years, and Broadway Bound is about Eugene and his brother be- coming radio show comedy writers. With the success of this trilogy, Si- mon’s reputation as a premiere Ameri- can playwrite was cemented. Look-
Brighton Beach, Brooklyn,
1937. T e play stars Eugene Jerome, a Polish-Jewish Ameri- can teenager who is obsessed with baseball and girls - but not in that order. He lives in a household with his wacky immediate family and other quirky relatives. Eugene makes witty and sarcastic quips to the audience throughout the play. Along the lines of this - “I hate my name - Eugene Morris Je- rome - how am I ever going to play for the Yankees with a name like that? You have to be a Joe or a Tony or Frankie.” An- other - aſt er an argument with his mother - “See why I write all of this this down? If I grow up all twisted and warped, I want the world to know why.” And the
caustic comments
ing for a laugh or two - prob- ably more -
see this! Raven
Performing Arts T eater, 115 North Street, Healdsburg. T e show runs January February 14, 2016.

A man was caught stealing in a supermarket today while balanced on the shoulders of a couple of vampires. He was charged with shoplifting on two counts.
Did you hear about the new restaurant on the moon? The food is great, but there’s just no atmosphere.
