CHIRK TROUT FARM CHEESE ‘THE CREAM’ SAY LOCAL FOODIES
l AN ARTISAN cheese created by a specialist smokery near Chirk, in conjunction with a Welsh centre of excellence, has tasted major success in its first year on sale. Abermwg, with its rich
tawny rind, is winning a host of discerning customers at outlets across the UK including independent delicatessens, farm shops and restaurants, and won gold at the Royal
Welsh Show. Chirk Trout Farm and
Food Smokery uses oak and beech wood chips from up the valley in Glyn Ceiriog, to cold-smoke wheels of the cheese, which are handmade and matured at Bodnant Welsh Food Centre in the Conwy Valley. Richard Simpson, who
owns the smokery, said: “Abermwg cheese has been a big success for us – both in terms of the part we play in producing it and also on the shelves of our own farm shop.

FARM SHOP LAUNCHES ONLINE SHOPPING
l A farm shop near Bridgnorth has just launched their online shopping website with a Click & Collect and advanced order service, to complement its physical shop which opened nearly 5 years ago. Apley Estate owner
Lord Hamilton explained “This is something which has been in the pipeline since we began, so it’s great to see it come to fruition. We’ve taken our first orders & we’re adding products to our site
every week. In September, DeliShop was launched by ClicBox, who manage the ‘back-office’ for us.” “We’ve effectively gone national: From our base in Shropshire, we can now supply customers all over the UK with products handmade at Apley Farm Shop as well as a wide range from many other suppliers.“ added Lady Hamilton. DeliShops are new online shops which give
delicatessens and farm shops an easy way to sell
online. However Charlie Turnbull says they are much more than your average online shop: “Our most innovative elements are our click and collect
service options plus our incorporation of the best producers and importers onto the sites. Apley’s customers can now shop through Apley’s DeliShop for a range of goods not seen outside big cities.
