Review by Marlisa L. Mills, MSW LCAS, Director of Bereave-
ment and Family Support Services, Connecticut Hospice, Inc.: “Dr. Joanne Moore shares her unique perspective on how to not only survive the loss of a spouse, but also how to handle the small things that frequently overwhelm widows and widowers. This is an excel- lent book with down to earth, practical guidance. As a bereavement director in a large hospice, I intend to use this book for my families.”
When Dr. Moore was widowed, she sought mentors for living
in a new way. She was inspired by the stories of more experienced widows and widowers. This prompted her to found the magazine, “Pathfi nder: A Companion Guide for the Widow/er’s Journey,” and write “After the Loss of a Spouse: What’s Next?”
Dr. Moore’s story and passion for supporting others is told
in Right This Minute’s There is Life After Loss, and Pathfi nder Helps People Find Theirs. She is a Distinguished Toastmaster (Toastmaster International), and enjoys speaking on end of life and bereavement issues.

T
here is a new generation of women who have embraced yoga in a way that honors intuition, family, fl ow, community, activ- ism, and the cyclical nature of women’s lives. YOGAWOMAN is a groundbreaking fi lm that captures this fascinating time of awak- ening female power. Through rich personal stories, the fi lm reveals how yoga has transformed the lives of thousands of over-stimulated, overscheduled, and multi-tasking modern women. With vivid detail and poignancy, the fi lm also illuminates how women have embraced yoga for easing health conditions like breast cancer, infertility, heart disease, anxiety, and depression, as well as given a lifeline to women in prison, cancer survivors, and those struggling with body image or eating disorders.
On Friday, February 5, West Hartford Yoga will host a screen-
ing of YOGAWOMAN to benefi t WHY Outreach’s Yoga for Cancer classes. WHY Outreach, Inc. is a non-profi t organization whose mission is to bring the physical, spiritual, and therapeutic benefi ts of yoga, meditation, and holistic healing modalities to underserved communities and special populations. The populations include the impoverished; the elderly; troubled youths; individuals living with cancer, eating disorders, addictions, AIDS, depression, and emotion- al illnesses; and people suffering from other chronic diseases.
Early in 2014, WHY Outreach teacher Nina Fox, a certifi ed Y4C
(Yoga for Cancer) instructor, collaborated with West Hartford Yoga and Cut Out Cancer, to offer a free yoga class for anyone coping with cancer—whether newly diagnosed or undergoing treatment—and their caregivers. Each 75-minute class combines meditation, a gentle yoga fl ow, and restorative poses to build strength and fl exibility, boost the immune system, and cultivate a sense of well-being. This combination of healthy movement, breath, and mindfulness can help to alleviate depression, anxiety, nausea, and insomnia while also improving such physical symptoms as pain and fatigue.
Join WHY Outreach for a screening of the fi lm at West Hartford Yoga on Friday, February 5, from 6:30-8:30pm, 23 Brook Street, West Hartford. Proceeds from the $10 suggested donation go to WHY Outreach to benefi t the biweekly Yoga for Cancer classes. Details about the fi lm are available at
www.westhartfordyoga.com/events. htm. Information about Yoga for Cancer can be found at www.
