mayer, a fel- low scientist, Asimov wrote a rare essay “On Creativity.” He said original thinkers “are willing to fl y in the face of reason, authority and common sense and are people of considerable self-assurance—per- haps eccentric” --“Consequently, one who is most likely to get new ideas is a person of good back- ground in the fi eld of interest and unconventional in habits. Adding wry wit: “To be a crackpot is not, however, enough in itself.” Do recall Einstein’s “You can’t blame gravity for falling in love.” Jump-start 2016 so you and all you love may have a happier, up- beat new year! ~ I’ll try too. ~Ellie

PAUL: You already have purpose, right here at this very moment. Whatever you are doing, that’s your pur- pose. The more you practice being that –the stronger you get.

MARCIA: You’re express- ing the heart of mindfulness meditation training Paul, learning to just Be in the Mo- ment. Impressive –and very upbeat, indeed!

PAUL: That’s how I put the paper together --in the mo- ment, sitting there amass- ing a thousand pieces of data…I give it everything. I consider submitted mate- rial, the thoughts behind it, if it’s purposeful or someone’s greed…My way of giving is to choose upbeat things to print, to offer to others.

MARCIA: Great! Paul, I know you knew and admired Charles Schultz, and aspired to be a syndicated cartoon- ist yourself with Sigmond: What’s your plant character about?

PAUL: Reason, understand- ing, acceptance and growth. About me being like a plant; when a big storm comes in, a branch might get torn off, but the rest of the plant gets stron- ger. And, Sigmond needs to accept his own ‘package,’ that he’s good enough, that it’s enough to just be a good normal person, and be kind.

MARCIA: Two of my other heroes on kindness are the Dalai Lama and Anne Frank who believed in the midst of horrors, that people are good at heart. Yes, that should be enough. Thank you Paul Doyle, on behalf of us all; you are a community treasure.

JOKES & Humor # 8 A couple were vacationing in

Yosemite. The wife expressed her concern about camping because of bears and said she would feel more comfortable in a motel. The husband said that he’d like to camp and to calm her concerns, they’d talk to the park ranger to see what the likelihood of a bear encounter would be.

The ranger told them, “Well, we haven’t seen any grizzlies in this area so far this year, or black bears, for that matter.”

The wife shrieked, “There’s TWO types of bears out here? How can you tell the difference? Which one is more dangerous?”

The ranger replied, “Well, that’s easy, see, if the bear chases you up a tree and it comes up after you, it’s a BLACK bear. If it SHAKES the tree until you fall out, it’s a grizzly.”

The motel room was quite nice. Interact With
