store would be because of Charles. When I realized the importance of Charles’s role to my community, I realized the contribution of the millions of drivers to keep America moving. Knowing this, we had to do something to make a contribution to this industry.


PUTTING TOGETHER A PLAN After all of these experiences, I started


to map out a mobile app for drivers and a dashboard for companies to improve collaboration with my co-founder Andrew Kirpalani. Our idea was well received by Straight Shot, a startup business accelerator program in Omaha that invested in WorkHound to give us the runway to bring the idea to life. Despite this momentum, we needed


allies to get in front of carriers, this is where Larry Johnson and the Nebraska Trucking Association came in. Larry introduced our team to several carriers to learn from and get feedback about the early direction to take with WorkHound.

LEARNING FROM ASSOCIATION MEMBERS Time was spent interviewing many


Nebraska carriers. Turnover varies for all carriers, but one thing was clear: we all want to be better. A few themes started to emerge about how certain companies perform. Te best companies treat drivers with the upmost respect, new drivers are the source for the highest proportion of the turnover and drivers leave for a variety of reasons. When it comes to turnover, one of the biggest issues that was shared but is rarely mentioned is the small misunderstandings that spark irrational


emotions and actions. Once we learned this, we started building our product.


BUILDING SOMETHING THAT CREATES VALUE FOR CARRIERS AND FOR DRIVERS We built WorkHound to tackle the


driver shortage: the recruiting and retention challenges that keep many executives up at night. We focused initially on giving the drivers a stronger voice and carriers the tool to show drivers more respect while on the road. Our goal is to give drivers a voice to address the small
