BUSINESS AWARDS 2015

A gala night highlighting 21 years of regional recognition for our business ‘Hall of Fame’

“We are delighted to see you here at this special 21st awards night, an unbroken run that makes our event the longest running business awards in the Thames Valley,” said David Murray, publisher of The Business Magazine, as he welcomed 300 guests to the annual celebration and recognition of regional excellence.

Over the life of the awards some 6,000 people had attended such gala nights, more than 600 companies had been finalists and over 100 had been honoured as award-winners, he revealed, as founding chairman of the Thames Valley Business Magazine Awards (TVBMA).

Murray then told the gathered 43 finalists of 2015: “You are here because your company or organisation has proved itself one of the very finest, best- run and fastest-growing businesses in the Thames Valley.

“You are this year’s standouts – recruiting new employees, building revenue and profits, launching new products and services, being innovative and smart – and, crucially, also in many, many cases, giving something back to the community.

“Tonight is your chance to join our Hall of Fame.”

Not that it might be their last chance, he noted. Firstly, since the TVBMA will continue to annually highlight regional business excellence – underpinned by the support of respected judges and award category sponsors, whom he thanked: Deloitte, Hays, Redwood Technologies, James Cowper Kreston, Grundon, Pitmans and NatWest.

And secondly, because of the dynamic business nature of the local economy.

“These are exciting times in the Thames Valley. This area has been ranked in more than one survey as the most vibrant outside London. Its contribution to the UK’s GDP is very significant, and it is quite justifiable to say that the Thames Valley looks to have some good years of sustained growth ahead of it.”

The prestigious local business flagship event at the Royal Berkshire Conference Centre in Reading was compered by journalist and media presenter Nadine Dereza who has worked for channels such as CNN, BBC, Sky TV, and Global Business TV.

Fellow media professional and BAFTA-award winning journalist Huw Edwards was the guest speaker, and he gained an early ‘welcome back’ round of applause following his return from reporting the terrorist atrocities in Paris.

The veteran BBC TV broadcast anchor Huw Edwards provided his personal insight into how the media covers such breaking-news events, before sharing some of his career experiences and views on the business world.

Maintaining TVBMA tradition, one winner was publicised in advance and well supported on the night – the Berkshire Community Foundation, selected as the event’s charity partner. The Foundation raises funds and makes grants to local charities and community groups across the county. Generous table donations and sponsored tweeting raised a sum of £2,406.
