• Specialist intellectual property adviser Barker Brettell LLP has appointed a new patent attorney partner, Dr Robin Tyson, who will be based at the firm’s Southampton office. Tyson joins from London- based IP firm J A Kemp, where he focused on patenting inventions originated by several UK universities and in the ’green energy’ sector, as well as prosecuting patent applications for well-known Japanese consumer electronics companies. He has extensive experience advising clients on protecting inventions in cutting-edge technologies.
• Accountancy firm RSM has appointed two new partners to its Southampton office: indirect tax partner Philip Munn (right) and audit partner Paul Anthony (left). Munn joins RSM from Deloitte, where he worked on both VAT and duty issues for a wide variety of companies. While he specialises in the travel, hospitality and leisure market he has also worked with several technology companies, both as part of their in-house teams and as an adviser. Anthony joins RSM from BDO in Southampton and is an experienced audit partner, advising growing businesses that are privately owned, private-equity backed and listed. He has worked with complex and international businesses across a broad range of sectors including technology, distribution and manufacturing.
• Bennington Green, consultancy in construction, property and civil engineering in the south, has appointed Sally Bennetts to its expanding team. Joining as financial manager, Bennetts brings with her many years’ experience, having previously run her own accountancy and tax practice. She has previously worked with big names such as Cunard and has been instrumental in putting together a plethora of business valuations across different sectors.
• Law firm Blake Morgan has promoted 18 lawyers in its Southampton offices. In real estate Allen Townsend, a senior associate, is promoted to legal director. Sue Cornall, Sian Reynolds and Daniel Kidson are promoted from associate to senior associate; Charlotte Wilson rises from senior solicitor to associate; and Elizabeth Coton, Kerry Dovey and Ben Bystry are promoted from solicitor to senior solicitor. Social housing senior solicitor Chris Carr rises from senior solicitor to associate. Property litigation specialist Helen Dickie is promoted from senior solicitor to associate, while her colleagues Claire Hitchman and Rachel Gimson both receive promotions from solicitor to senior solicitor. In commercial litigation Kate Briggs is promoted from associate to senior associate; Karl Cameron is promoted from associate to senior associate; while Ben Evans rises from senior solicitor to associate, and has also recently become a registered trademark attorney. Criminal and regulatory specialist Tim Williamson is promoted from associate to senior associate. Kirsteen Hook of charities and Deena Blake in residential development are promoted from solicitor to senior solicitor.

• Nick Miles has joined independent commercial property consultancy Hughes Ellard as a senior building surveyor, bringing the total number of employees at the firm to a record 27. Formerly with Faithful+Gould in Southampton and Woolley & Wallis in Salisbury, Miles’ experience covers the full range of building surveying duties, including acquisition surveys, advising on building defects, schedules of condition, dilapidations, development monitoring and the project management of refurbishment and fit-out schemes.
• NewVoiceMedia, a leading global provider of cloud technology, has strengthened its executive team with the appointment of Darren Smith as SVP sales engineering. Smith will be responsible for leading the organisation’s sales engineering team and assisting with new business and customer account management to support both high growth and operational efficiency across NewVoiceMedia’s expanding global footprint. He brings over 20 years’ industry experience to the business, joining from Salesforce, where he held various senior executive positions spanning sales engineering and platform architecture. Prior to that, he served at both Microsoft and Oracle.
• Laceys Solicitors has appointed three new solicitors: Luke English, Natasha Duffy-Jones (above) and Russell Brasington. English joins to head up the firm’s new media and technology department. Duffy-Jones will be adding strength and depth to the corporate and commercial team in relation to M&A, company matters plus finance, loans and security documentation. Brasington joins in commercial and residential property, bringing with him experience from 25 years working within private practice, in-house with property developers and in local government.
