Nominations have opened for the Solent Deals Awards – with hundreds of entries expected for the 2016 competition


For the latest contest, nominations can be made online through a new entry system, which goes live this month.


The 2016 event is at St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, on June 9 and the categories are:

The 2015 Deal of the Year, over £25 million, was the Selwood Group acquisition and growth funding.


A pump hire and sales company founded in 1946, Selwood has acquired companies through its history including Glo Hire and Sales and Proplant. It is now a £56m turnover company employing 420 staff and is acknowledged as one of the UK leaders in its field of designing and manufacturing mobile site pumps.


Based at Chandlers Ford, Selwood was chosen as Deal of the Year for a refinancing package supported by HSBC, which has facilitated further growth. The company also won the Business Team of the Year award in The Business Magazine’s Solent 250 campaign.


In the under £25m section, the Deal of the Year was 3Si’s acquisition of Besse & Mill. 3Si – Safety and Survival Systems International – is a group backed by August Equity and the owner of Ocean Safety, Typhoon International, and International Safety Products in the UK, and Revere Survival Inc in the USA.


Besse & Mill was the holding company of marine safety specialist Ocean Safety, and the deal was advised by Meridian Corporate Finance, Shoosmiths, Osborne Clarke, Travers Smith and Hazelwoods.


Which transaction will be the Deal of the Year in the 2016 competition?


The qualifying period for entries is April 2015 to March 2016.
