LAUNCH OF NEW JCCC App and Briefing Films
by WO Phil Chadwick, RAF Community Support
The Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre (JCCC) has launched their new app and briefing films aimed at both Service personnel and their families. The app and films will help all Service personnel and their relatives understand how the JCCC can help them when incidents occur either in the UK, or on operations.
New app
Once downloaded to a mobile phone or tablet, the JCCC app provides a simple ‘click and call’ facility that directs the user to the most appropriate support organisation if they are faced with a family emergency. The app guides the user to the correct point of contact, even if the emergency is to be managed outside of JCCC’s remit, for example by Unit Welfare Staff. Once the Service Person’s name, rank, Service number and welfare officer’s details are recorded on the app, it can be used by both the Service Person and their wider family at any time.
The JCCC app is now available to download from the Defence Gateway using its app store and it is recommended that the Service person logs on to the Gateway and downloads individual copies of the app for his or her family members.
“The films describe the role of the JCCC and the support it provides and explains what happens in the case of a casualty.”
Briefing films
The two short films, one aimed at Service personnel and the other for their family and friends, highlight the

JCCC’s role and explain the processes involved in managing casualty and compassionate cases. Both films are introduced by Chief of the Defence Staff, General Sir Nick Houghton and presented by Countryfile’s Ellie Harrison and adventurer/broadcaster Ben Fogle.
The films describe the role of the JCCC and the support it provides and explains what happens in the case of a casualty. They also highlight the difference between an Emergency Contact and a Next of Kin and stress the importance of making a Will and ensuring all these details are correctly recorded on JPA. Both films are available to stream on the JCCC website and RAF units have been provided with their own copies for deployment briefing events.
Chief of Staff Personnel at
Headquarters Air Command, Air Vice- Marshal David Stubbs said: “These new initiatives will help both our Service personnel and their families understand the role of the Joint Casualty and Compassionate Centre and what it can do for the wider Service community.
The films are informative and interesting and I encourage everybody to view them, whether they are due to deploy or not. I am also very pleased to see the launch of the new app, which, once downloaded, enables personnel and their families to have useful information and guidance on JCCC matters at their fingertips.”
