Tuesday, October 6, 2015 Former Canyon athlete takes over
El Modena volleyball program Lindsay Laasko takes over a successful girls volleyball pro- gram at El Modena High School. In preparation for the upcoming season, Laasko’s team was relo- cated to the Grijalva Park gym, losing two weeks of practice be- cause of repairs on the El Modena gym roof.
Laasko inherited a team that graduated 11 seniors; only four returning
players have varsity
playing experience. To date, Laasko has taken the team to 4-7 with a sweep of Ana- heim High School before playing in the Valley Christian Volleyball
Tournament. El Modena finished eighth out of 32 teams before los- ing to El Segundo High.
Laasko graduated from Canyon High School in 2005, and played for New Mexico State. She trans- ferred to Fullerton JC, finishing her playing at Cal State Los An- geles.
At CSLA she was voted second team all conference after making the Division 2 playoffs in 2007, and advancing to the semi-finals in 2008.
Century League play started last week with Villa Park visiting El Modena.

To say that Foothill’s boys water polo team is on fire is an understatement. Returning from a 10-6 victory over Capistrano Valley High School, the bus caught fire while on the freeway; a replacement was sent. Foothill, 8-1, ranked number one in Division 2 and took third place in the South Coast Tournament last week after losing a match against Loyola High School.
Kara Perkins (9) from El Modena High spikes the ball against Ana- heim High. El Modena won at home, 3-0.
Mariah Gonzalez (7) teams up with Kianna Snow (6) to block a shot against Anaheim. El Modena swept Anaheim, 3-0.
Grace Cannon (16) from Foothill High spikes over the reach of a Sonora player. Foothill won the pool game, 2-1, and beat Bonita, 2-0, to advance into the gold bracket.
Bohannon takes Grass Doubles Championship
Taylor Groot (7) from Foothill High gets over the net to score against a Sonora player in the Dave Mohs Volleyball Tournament. Foothill won, 2-1.
Dan Bohannon, an All-Ameri- can from Chapman College, and teammate Brian Cheney cap- tured the USTA National Grass Doubles Championship in the 65 and over division in Sep-
tember. The event was held at the Seabright Lawn Tennis and Cricket Club in Rumson, New Jersey, which has been around for over 125 years. The finals match was won in
