In the fourth quarter, Villa Park scored on a Nick Sipe pass (151 yards) to Brennan Corbin (116 yards) good for 42 yards and Anthony Firuta added a 38-yard field goal with 4:08 remaining to seal the 10-9 win.
Principal Kimberly Fricker honored by the CIF Southern Section
Principal Kimberly Fricker at Canyon High School received the Commissioner’s Award at the 12th annual Dr. Jim Staunton Champion for Character Awards held at the Grand Hotel in Long Beach, Sept. 28.
The awards, created by the CIF-SS Ethics in Sports Com- mittee, recognizes athletes who combine a fierce competitive na- ture with the six pillars of charac- ter: trustworthiness, responsibil- ity, respect, fairness, caring and
citizenship. Athletes, coaches, administrators, officials, schools and media who demonstrate these qualities are honored at the din- ner.
“It is inspiring to read the in- credible accomplishments of our honorees,” said CIF-SS Commis- sioner of Athletics Rob Wigod. “We are proud and honored to highlight these outstanding in- dividuals and institutions. They personify our commitment to vic- tory with honor.”
Canyon quarterback Jason Harman had a produc- tive night against Edison, good for 115 yards.
Michael Freeman (6), running back from Canyon High School, has rushed for 213 yards for the season. Canyon’s remaining non-conference game is against Villa Park.
Tymaj Cole, running back for Orange High School, scores the first of three touchdowns against Savanna. Orange won the homecoming game, 42-9, and remains undefeated.
