Santa Rosa, CA. ~ As I looked through a wide section of pho- tos I’d taken over the last few months,
this cactus caught
my eye the most. Sometimes there are contrasts of epic pro- portions. Here, two beautiful fl owers amongst thorns,
that
quite honestly really hurt when piercing the skin. (I only did it once) These fl owers bloomed for months. The actual size of each fl ower is a bit over a quarter inch. I think the plant is
saying...’Leave my fl ow-
ers alone!’ Or something like that. They were not meant to be picked, that’s for sure. I’m listening to 1920’s Jazz music/ big band as I write this. The music is timeless. The best part is, I listen to all forms of music on the planet. To me, it is a form of vibration like that of the sounds of birds in the morn- ing, and off in the distance I can often hear the highway and low hum of thousands of tires, engines and ambient industrial
sounds. When I was in eighth grade, my teacher had all the students do a listening exer- cise where we were instructed to write down as many differ- ent sounds as possible. I think the teacher did it to get a break. Smart guy! Great experience! I actually ended up with the most items listed. I even in- cluded the sounds of my own breathing. I did not however list my eyes opening and clos- ing as a sound.
But I did learn to slow down
for a moment, as brief as it was. Later on in life I learned it was called meditation. I don’t med- itate...but I do hold still some- times. And, what a great con- trast in life it is! Like going to the ocean and sitting still with my eyes closed. The smells and sounds are truly awesome!

“I thought I told you to keep an eye on your cousin,” the mother said. “Where is he?”
“Well,” her son replied thought- fully, “if he knows as much about canoeing as he thinks he does, he’s out canoeing. If he knows as little as I think he does, he’s out swimming.”
Now that it’s all over, what did you really do yesterday that’s worth mentioning?
