Santa Rosa, CA. ~ “Going to the dogs” has always had a pe- jorative implication that some- thing is less than it used to be. The saying apparently origi- nated in ancient China where dogs were not allowed within the walls of a city. Criminals and social outcasts were rele- gated to the same fate. They all tried to survive on the garbage thrown over the city walls.

FALL GUIDE Sonoma County

‘Going to the Dogs’ in A Great Way Thank goodness times and

people have changed in rela- tionship to dogs, also called ‘man’s best friend.’ Apparently, the phrase was fi rst used in the 18th Century by the King of Prussia, referring to his Italian greyhounds.

Here is a wonderful story about people who cherish the health and well-being of man’s and woman’s best friend. Enter

three organizations: Nature’s Variety (http://www.naturesva- riety.com/). The purpose of the company is to empower people to transform the lives of pets. The company makes a fresh meat, raw, frozen, gluten-free, high

protein, wheat-free, no

fi llers, whole food dog food, Instinct.

The Green Dog Rescue Proj- ect (http://www.greendogpro- ject.org/) provides a home, a community and social environ- ment fi lled with love for lots of rescued dogs with no cages, freedom to roam and play and people to help them thrive until someone adopts them. They oc- cupy a large living room space with chairs, couches, toys and each other as well as room to run and play outside. Western Farm Center (westernfarmcen- ter.com/), a truly local service store, carries Nature’s Variety products. Nature’s Variety offered a

pound for pound free dog food challenge for a company to match. Western Farm Center stepped up to the plate to sup- port the community and Green Dog Rescue. As a result , they were the deserving recipient of 4,733 pounds of excellent dog food for their 50+ dogs! Redesigning shelters around the country along the lines of Green Dog would give dogs and cats a good home to thrive in rather than a kennel with wire sides, next to other caged animals, listening to incessant barking and crying of fellow inmates.

It could easily be cheaper be- cause when dogs live the com- munal life, as their tempera- ment dictates, they are very adoptable, and they love to be with people.

Thank you Green Dog Res-

cue, Western Farm Center & Natures Variety for making a difference in our community!

JOKES & Humor # 4

A customer was bothering the waiter in a restaurant. First, he asked that the air conditioning be turned up because he was too hot, then he asked it be turned down cause he was too cold, and so on for about half an hour. Surprisingly, the waiter was very patient, he walked back and forth and never once got angry. So fi nally, a second customer asked him why he didn’t throw out the pest.

“Oh, I really don’t care or mind,” said the waiter with a smile. “We don’t even have an air conditioner.”
