DALEX
Six Decades of Growth and Progress
When he founded Dalex in 1952, D’Arcy McConvey Sr. probably never pictured the company still thriving six decades later. Today, however, the company is transi- tioning to the third generation of leadership in a field where longevity and commitment still mean a great deal to customers.
IN THE BEGINNING McConvey Senior was working as the sales manager for Dalgliesh Chemicals (a division of Standard Chem- ical) when he and others in the company got together and acquired the dry cleaning chemical division of the company. They decided to name their company Dalex – a play on words, since they were ex-employees of Dalgliesh Chemicals. The name was catchy and it has stuck through the years, unlike many companies that undergo name changes as they grow and develop. Two years after purchasing the chemical division, the group took on the laundry and dry cleaning equipment that went with it. Dalex also became a Milnor dealer, and has been successfully distributing Milnor products ever since.
WITH INNOVATION “We have always recognized that in order to stay ahead of the curve, we must offer the most reliable products on the market to our custom- ers,” said present CEO D’Arcy McConvey, son of the founder. It is the blend of being loyal to brands that they’ve carried over the years, and the willing- ness to take on innovative new equipment and chemicals that has kept Dalex prosperous. “We have always been proud of our loyalty to the brands we distribute,” he said. “We consider them to be the best in the marketplace. Qual- ity, reliability and efficiency are key to our success – less headaches for us translates to happy customers.”
In addition to Milnor, the company also carries Jensen finishing equipment, has been a dealer for Union since 1995, Sankosha since 2010, and most recently has become the LG Commercial Master Dealer in Eastern Canada in 2013. To get the most from the equip- ment they supply, Dalex also carries solvents and chemicals from GreenEarth, Kreussler, Streets, Seitz, A.L. Wilson and Alpine, “which we are proud to represent for their alterna- tive cleaning solutions,” and Stry-Lenkoff’s garment track- ing tagging and identification systems.
“Over the years, we’ve grown to become a one-stop-shop as we offer equipment, supplies, parts and service. Our product knowledge and expertise in all

areas for all laundry, fabricare, dry cleaning and wet cleaning needs translate to unparalleled customer service,” he said.
GREAT EMPLOYEES ARE KEY
Dalex values its employees, and isn’t afraid to show it. When Fabricare Canada did a cover story profile of the company in 2006, McConvey consented to be on the cover only if he and his management
