der their jurisdiction. Officers follow these instructions closely and take the appropriate actions as directed by their health partners. With respect to passenger screening, the border secu-

rity works with Canada’s international partners to iden- tify high risk persons and goods before they arrive at our borders in all modes of transportation. Additionally, commercial carriers are required to report ill travellers ar- riving in Canada to the agency, which in turn notifies the Public Health Agency of Canada. Canadian Border Ser- vices employees are designated as screening officers under the Quarantine Act and are well-trained in the appropri- ate response in the event of a traveller displaying symp- toms of illness. As well, a public health quarantine officer will assess any persons feeling ill, or who may have been in contact with a sick person from an affected country. During the period of an outbreak of an infectious dis- ease, such as the ebola virus disease, the Public Health

Agency of Canada is the lead agency responsible for monitoring and screening travellers for the disease. Bor- der services works closely with public health officials and provides any assistance they may require, including help identifying travellers arriving in Canada with symptoms of communicable diseases. Te Canadian Border Services Agency administers the Quarantine Act at all ports of entry by screening all arriving travellers. For example, agency officers will ask travellers addition- al questions related to their travel history over the past month and their general health to assess whether the trav- eller should receive a mandatory health assessment. For more details on the government of Canada response, such as communicable disease alerts or about quarantine services, travellers can contact the Public Health Agency of Canada at publichealth.gc.ca.
