• Accountancy and business advisory firm BDO LLP has announced the promotion of Steve Le Bas to partner in its Southampton office. Le Bas works with listed, PE-backed and owner- managed businesses with a turnover between £5 million and £500m across a broad range of industries. He has a particular specialism in the motor retail sector and has made a significant contribution to the growth of BDO’s motor retail business. Le Bas qualified as a chartered accountant in 1995 at Burnett Swayne, which was acquired by Numerica in 2002, the Southampton office of which was acquired in turn by BDO in 2005.
• CBRE has appointed two new surveyors in its South Central office as the demand for specialist advice continues to grow. Daniel Green (left) joins as a surveyor in the professional services landlord and tenant team and Lee Swain (right) joins as a graduate surveyor in building consultancy. Green joins from The Valuation Office where he spent almost two years, initially as a graduate caseworker in the rating team and more recently with the property services team. He recently passed his Assessment of Professional Competency (APC), is a qualified chartered surveyor, and a RICS-registered valuer. Swain joins from the construction industry and brings with him extensive hands-on experience in both contract and party wall work. He will be following the fast-track RICS APC route, taking advantage of his 10 years’ experience in the property industry.
• Hampshire law firm Moore Blatch has recruited Luc Algar as a partner in its commercial property team within its real estate division. Based in the Southampton office, Algar is a commercial property lawyer who specialises in acting for leading housebuilders, investors, insolvency practitioners and lending institutions, as well as other businesses and private individuals. He qualified as a solicitor in 2008 and is a member of both the Southampton and Portsmouth Property Associations.
• The Southampton office of property consultancy JLL has appointed a new director in its planning and development team. David Ramsay, who now heads up the team, was previously associate and head of planning for the Solent region for Vail Williams in Southampton and Portsmouth. He said: ”My aim is to drive business growth in a variety of sectors across the region.”
• Philippa Robinson, a recent finalist in three categories at the Solent Deals Awards, has been appointed to the new SME advisory desk at Liberum. She has a wealth of experience in lead advisory for deals in the SME sector, and joins Liberum from Wilkins Kennedy Corporate Finance where she was corporate finance director with responsibility for the western region. She said: ”I hope to use my links with the Solent to introduce local businesses to Liberum clients as possible acquisition targets, and also to focus on winning new work from outside London. Liberum was started in 2007 to provide a different style of broking, and the addition of the SME desk continues the theme of offering an innovative and proactive service.”

• The Southampton office of commercial property specialist Vail Williams has gained 20 years of planning expertise with the arrival of its latest new recruit Louise Cutts. Following a 20-year career in the public sector, including 10 years as principal planner in the major applications team at Eastleigh Borough Council, Cutts moved to the private sector in 2014 before taking on the role of senior planner at Vail Williams. She brings a bank of knowledge to advise clients on a wide variety of land and property issues. Projects from her time at Eastleigh Borough Council include involvement in 100 houses at the former Travis Perkins site, the Vue cinema/bowling complex, and the Travelodge Hotel in central Eastleigh.
• Chichester-based Oceanair Marine, the world’s leading supplier of blinds, shades, screens and soft furnishings for the marine market, has appointed Tom Chant as international sales manager. Chant spent almost nine years at the British Marine Federation as international development manager, where he advised and supported member companies on increasing their exports. An experienced offshore sailor, he is well acquainted with the industry’s shows and is well connected with overseas yacht builders, distributors and project managers.
