Sneaky free beauty! by Rowena Kitchen
e all like things that are free no matter how wealthy we may be. the very words Free or sale can bring on the
vapours in some women. ‘buy one get one free’, yes please! ‘50% off for a limited time only’ can be the very words that cajole you into buying a winter coat in July and then, by the time the cold winds blow, you have set your heart on another one in the colour of the season not the baby blue one you purchased because you were suffering from ‘sale-itus’. Yes, I made that word up but you know exactly what I am saying. No wonder the sale signs are all in red, they are like a red rag to a bull for some of us. We charge in, grabbing and snatching and, with our eyes swivelling madly from side to side to make sure we have missed nothing, we stagger to the check out under enough clothes to outfit the cast of Les miserables. there is a reason why we say the ‘Fashion

Hem lines are up, hem lines are down. If you have no problem with looking like a mexican gunslinger, which was the hot look last season, when everyone else with be channelling their inner roman goddess (again) then you are the winner here. beauty products are a bit
trickier. brown eye shadow has been on the shelves since peo- ple started wearing make up so why would they need to put them on sale? New ingredients
and formulations come up faster than weeds and they need the shelf space for the new magical shadow fresh from the lab. the cosmetics companies are not there to give
things away so ‘free with purchase’ is just an ex- pression – you will be paying for it as some point. ‘this substandard make up bag with four sample sizes is yours if you spend x amount of pounds!’ this is a way of getting you to try new products and hoping you like them.

In the car, set the heat to blow only at your feet – the thinnest skin is around your eyes and on your neck area both of which are ex-
posed to the elements all the time. Drying these out with blasts of hot air will result in lines and wrinkles you could have avoided.
A sachet of sugar in a restaurant is exactly the right amount to mix with a handful of cleanser to turn it into a moisturising exfoliator.
