integrates a gas turbine with a Yankee hood air system and a waste heat steam generator, covering all the electricity and steam needs of the site. The gas turbine flue gases are used to dry the paper without any additional gas consumption. This is said to improve the energy
he Lucart Group’s tissue mill at Castelnuovo di Garfagnana in northern Italy has inaugurated
efficiency and reduces greenhouse gas emissions significantly. In addition, drying costs in the
tissue production are decreased significantly. Franco Pasquini, engineering
director of Lucart, said: “The Integrated Cogeneration technology is totally consistent with our company mission, which focuses on environmental sustainability and respect. Furthermore, we have appreciated Valmet’s capability in finding and sharing possible solutions: Valmet people were always there when we needed it and this made a difference.” During the opening ceremony Luigino Furlan, Valmet’s vice president of the DCD Technology Unit, highlighted how the success
of this project is due to the teamwork between Lucart and Valmet. “The people who envisioned,
shared, built and implemented this project and the special relationship established between the teams, represent the corner stones for this achievement,” said Furlan. “Mutual trust between Lucart and Valmet has been established and the path to continued partnership is paved.” The Lucart Group operates
ten paper machines and 54 converting lines in Italy, France and Spain with sales of €400 million a year. Total capacity is 300,000 tonnes a year.
Tissue machine ordered for Resolute’s Calhoun mill
US-based Resolute Forest Products has ordered a tissue machine as part of the project to build a US$270 million state-of-the- art tissue mill at Calhoun in
July/August 2015
Tennessee. The Advantage NTT machine supplied by Valmet will produce premium quality tissue products for the consumer market from the first quarter of 2017.
“This is the first time we will produce products directly for the consumer market,” said chief executive Richard Garneau. Resolute operates 40
pulp and paper mills and wood products facilities in the US, Canada and South Korea, and has power generation assets in Canada.
