games, oral his- tory displays. Martial arts dem- onstrations, taiko performances and more.

has earned this Enmanji event the unoffi cial title of “grand- father of teriyaki


barbecues” offers a range of Japanese delicacies including made-to-order imagawa yaki

(small stuffed pancake with a sweeten red bean fi lling), kushi yaki and locally made desserts. Proceeds from the bbq and bazaar support the local En- manji Buddhist Temple and community activities. The bbq plate features half of a chicken, steamed white rice, homemade potato salad, tea and fortune cookie. Cost is $12. If you do not want to stand in- line for a hot lunch, members have created a drive up pick-up window opening at 8AM. You can enter the temple grounds from Elphick Rd.

Odori dance on the temple grounds will culminate the summer festival season for the Enmanji community. The tra- ditional folk dances with par- ticipants dressed in summer kimonos and happi coats uti-


lize dance accessories like the round & folding fans, towels and castanets. The dance steps are easy to follow and the audi- ence is always welcome to join in the fun.


If you would like to learn the dances prior to Saturday’s event, free practices will be held Tuesday - Friday July 14 to 17 from 7-9 p.m. in the community hall.
