Driver banned


A DRIVER stopped in Holling- bourne has been banned from driv- ing for a year. Shane Matthews (36), fromCorn-


wallisAvenue, Maidstone, pleaded guilty to failing to provide a speci- men of breath at Hollingbourne on May 29. He was sentenced at Mid Kent Magistrates’ Combined Court to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work, in addition to the ban. He must also pay a £150 criminal courts charge, £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

found is thatwe all have a common vision for what we hope to achieve with Kims Angels.” The Angels’ mission statement is


simple – to be there whenever a pa- tient needs them. Val said: “This can mean getting


them a cup of tea or having a chat with them. It can help take a pa- tient’s mind off their treatment.” Tony said: “Having volunteered


in the localNHShospital Iwas keen to work to extend my experience and support to Kims patients.” Christine said: “When I heard


about what Mary, Val and Tony were doing itwas very exciting.We allwant to complement the care pro- vided to patients at Kims.” Val and Mary also help to run the patient forum. Kims, with 99 patient beds, is the


largest private hospital in Kent, but can be accessed by NHS patients.


Young chess masters win tournament


PUPILS fromGroveGreen showed all the rightmoves after winning a chess tournament. The challenge at St John’s C of E Primary School


saw the school emerge as convincing winners over Somerhill Preparatory School in Tonbridge. Julian Squiers, who teaches the young chess play-
