newspaper caption caught my attention: “Protect your vision as you age.” Such advice is an excellent re- minder that you and I can actually do something to protect our vi- sion.


My interest


in maintaining my eyesight has been an ongoing project ever since I became aware of the relationship between how I felt physically and emotionally, and how well I was seeing. I knew I had to change something in my life whenever I needed a mag- nifi er to read a food label or a phone book.


I realized that whenever I


felt ‘life’ stress, one of my ini- tial symptoms was ‘eye strain.’ I eventually learned that the main cause of eye strain was tension in the neck and shoul- ders, and even up into the head.


No wonder I felt the im- pulse to mas- sage my neck, even my eyes. Many issues pertaining to the head, in- cluding eye strain, head- ache, and foggy brain, originate in the shoulders. The buildup of tension in this area causes


nerves and blood vessels to constrict, reducing the fl ow of energy to the head. Such block- age is similar to a garden hose getting crimped and restricting the fl ow of water. The result is fatigue, even lethargy. When you have a symptom, such as ‘tired eyes’, consider the cause, and let that ‘cause’ lead you to a permanent solution. I know that eye drops can soothe the eyes, but that won’t solve the problem. Short of reducing stress in your life with a life- style change, here is a simple solution which over time can
