Historic village pub could be saved by new owner

A BUYER has been found for one of Yalding’s oldest pubs. There were fears that locals

might lose the 15th-century George after the retirement of 80-year old publican Joe Morris. The last pint was pulled at the

pub in October last year and the freehold was put up for sale – for the first time in 44 years – with a guide price of £795,000. Had it remained unsold, Joe planned to turn the property into flats and continue to live there. His contingency planning application – to convert the pub into three flats – has been lodged with Maidstone

vised guide price of £575,000, and that solicitors had been instructed. The new owner has been seen in

the village and has said he will be re-opening the pub shortly as a tra- ditional English village pub and restaurant. However, if the plan- ning application is successful, the new incumbent will still have the option of going ahead with the conversion. Built in 1546 as a watering hole

Council. However, national li- censed property agents Guy Sim- monds confirmed that the pubwas sold, subject to contract, with a re-

for locals, travellers and their ani- mals, The George was enlarged in the late 1700s. The main property still has eight bedrooms.

Gypsy site plan BROOMFIELD and Kingswood Parish Council has objected to a planning application to expand a gypsy site in Sutton Valence. Teony Ackleton wants to put a mobile home, touring caravan and utility building in Orchard Farm Nursery, Chartway Street. A com- ment from the parish council said: “Continued expansion of this site is creating a merging between neigh- bouring traveller sites in Cross Drive; the site is becoming over- sized. “The parish already has three considerable sized traveller sites, as well as several smaller sites. The parish is at risk of being over- whelmed.” Maidstone Council will decide.

Craft market An antiques and craft market will be held at St Mary’s Church, West Street, Hunton from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 25. Homemade refreshments will be served all day.

EDDIE POWELL “ Vote for a true local candidate for Maidstone & The Weald ” Dear voter,

I believe in Britain and the British people. The LIBLABCON have taken the hardworking people of this country and constituency for a ride. David Cameron constantly tells us that this is the most important election since the Second World War. The economy is often mentioned where he gloats about his successes. What he doesn't mention is the doubling of our National Debt in his five year reign. Freedom,Democracy and the ability to self Govern with Westminster remaining accountable to US the voters should be placed above all.

UKIP policies ensure that your hard earned money is not wasted and the money saved can be reinvested in the British people.

UKIP believe in divulging decision making and budgets back to Local Authorities. Money can then be spent on essential services instead of supporting the EU, Foreign dictators and Fighting unjust wars.

NOW is the time for change Maidstone and The Weald needs

I am backed by a party with policies and principles that will enable me to keep my promises.

I will work hard to ensure your hard earned money (and taxes) are not wasted. We will build a future for the younger generation of this constituency by encouraging local businesses to invest and implement apprenticeship opportunities.

Many services have been ignored for years. Traffic, flooding and basic infrastructure improvements have been promised and ignored by the Conservative and Liberal Democrat (The Coalition) for years.

With 7th May nearly upon us they have suddenly become important again!! Their intentions and records speak for themselves. Now is the time for REAL change before LibLabCon sell the Britain I Believe in to the EU.

'Our Policies speak for themselves. I don't need endorsements from past politicians'
