Foothill High School celebrated after winning the CIF Division 1A Boys Basketball Championships at the Honda Center. The Knights beat Edison High School in the finals.
Century Conference selects winter All-League players

niors Reed Nakakihara and Eric Patton from Foothill High School were selected as Co-Most Valu- able Players to the 2014-15 boys basketball team. Named to the first team were, from Foothill, Riley O’Hern, sr; from Can- yon, seniors Nicholas Anderson, Chandler Dignam, and Jordan Rohan. Second team selections from Foothill included seniors Greg Blanchard and Matt Avila; and, from Villa Park, sophomore Myles Franklin. In the North Hills League,

Named to the second team were Dillon Brown, jr, Sebastian Arteaga, sr, and Bryce Ramos, fr, from Foot- hill; Michael Cushing, jr, and Lee Bum, jr, from Villa Park; and Jose Sosa, jr, from El Modena. In North Hills League boys
soccer, Canyon seniors Brandon Doran and Emon Javadi made the first team, while Rodrigo Eche-
varria, sr, and Joel Pitzer, jr, ros- tered on the second team. Freshman soccer whiz Abby Greubel, Foothill, was awarded Century Conference Most Valu- able Player, and Hannah Stam- mer, a senior at Foothill, was named the Offensive Most Valu- able Player. Named to the Crest- view League girls soccer first team were Foothill Knights se- niors Justine Rendl, Nicole De- Noewer and Kaeli Larsh, plus sophomore Cameron Carty. Canyon High first teamers were freshman Penelope Hocking and junior Taylor Rasmussen. Villa Park junior Lauren Polyakov was named to the first team. The second team includes Foothill sophomores Claudia Hodgetts and Sierra Salzetti, and junior Jordan Moss; Canyon junior Ili- ana Hocking and seniors Sydney Bennett and Mikayla Arcebido; Villa Park senior Emily Condon and sophomore Natalie Barnett.
Canyon, Foothill and Orange Lutheran top Coach and Player of the Year awards
Xavier Hernandez from Villa Park High School was recognized as a scholar athlete at the National Football Foundation Dinner at the Anaheim Convention Center. Hernandez was a four-year athlete, All- League his junior and senior year, and carried a 3.6 GPA.
The Southern California Inter- scholastic Basketball Coaches Association announced the win- ners for coach and players of the year. Canyon High School, playing in Division 2AA, had an amazing come-from-behind dou- ble overtime win over Lawndale, 103-98, to capture the CIF title for the second year. Canyon won first round in the Southern Cali- fornia Regionals over Kearney High School from San Diego, and lost to La Mirada, 93-73, in the second round, ending the season. It was the second meeting of the
two teams this season; Canyon had lost to La Mirada in the Or- ange Holiday Classic semifinals. Canyon’s head coach Nate Har- rison was named the 2014 (Di- vision 2AA) Coach of the Year. Player of the Year awards went to Nicholas Anderson and Chandler Dignam, a senior named All-CIF. Foothill captured the Division
1A CIF Championship, and lost in the first round of the Southern California Regionals on the road against another San Diego team, Torrey Pines, 62-47. Foothill’s head coach Rusty Van Cleave was
named Division 1A Coach of the Year. Player of the Year awards went to senior Eric Patton and teammate Riley O’Hern, a senior named All-CIF. In the open divi- sion, T.J. Shorts from Tustin High was named All-CIF. In girls basketball, Orange Lu-
theran head coach Tom Howard was named Coach of the Year in Division 3A. Taelor Griffin, Or- ange Lutheran High School, was named Player of the Year. Senior Kaylani Maiava from Foothill High School was named All-CIF in Division 1A.

J.D. Pickell (left) from Orange Lutheran High School was recognized as a scholar athlete at the National Football Foundation Dinner at the Anaheim Convention Center. Pickell was joined by his athletic director Paul Jones. Pickell was a three-year letterman, team captain, and had a 3.97 GPA.
