May 2-4 1940s Weekend, Kent & East Sussex Railway, Tenterden The vital role played by railways during WW2 is recalled at this event which also features re-enactments, a home front display and a recreated air raid shelter as well as the music of the era. The heroic efforts involved in transporting thousands of troops through Kent after the evacuation of Dunkirk 75 years ago is remembered. There will be a frequent train service with locomotives in steam each day.

May 2-4 Sweeps Festival, Rochester Castle Gardens Medway’s annual Sweeps Festival recreates the joy and laughter enjoyed by the chimney sweeps at their traditional May holiday – the one time of the year the sweeps could leave the soot behind and have some fun. You don’t have to know much about Morris dancing to enjoy the festival because it has more than enough atmosphere to go round.
