Spotlight On Our Associates The Sweeney Family Band is heading up a new venture. While performing at
various fFairs and festivals around the state and around the country, they are taking time out during their breaks to share with the world a look “behind the curtain” at many entertainers, vendors and Fair board members of the Fairs where they perform. They have started a YouTube channel dedicated to getting out information about “Fairs and
Festivals.” It’s on the web at
www.youtube.com/user/sweeneyfamilyband. It’s called “The Sweeney Family Band Show.” Greg Thompson (aka Slim Sweeney) heads up the project interviewing those in the Fair business who make it happen. The “show” will include perfor- mances by The Sweeney Family Band as well as fun interviews of performers, vendors and Fair board members. “We want to make it entertaining as well as informative.” Says Thompson. “Most people
come to the Fairs, pay their money, have fun and never realize the tremendous work and dedication it takes to put on a Fair or festival.” The idea came to Thompson after watching a documentary on the impact YouTube has on the country. He discovered just how many people in the world turn to the internet for information and entertainment in specialized communities like Fairs and festivals. Thompson explained “Many people have told me over the years that The Sweeney Family
Band should bring HEE HAW back to television. And though we have many contacts in the industry that could make this happen, YouTube is the easiest and fastest way to do that. So that’s kind of what we are hoping to do.” “We conduct the interviews in character. It’s a lot of fun because the folks we interview get
what we do and have fun with us as much as we have fun with them.” Thompson said that most all of the people who work the Fairs are very entertaining and make it easy to interview them. “I kind of know already what they do when I’m interviewing them, so it’s easy to set them up with questions that they can easily answer.” Lynn Frey (aka Skeeter Sweeney) is also an “all around” entertainer and adds a lot to the interviews with comedy and provocative questions. Tony Wilburn (aka Little Buck Sweeney) appears in the show adding his fun to the show as well. So, if you are working the Fair, don’t be surprised if The Sweeneys approach you with a
video camera and ask for an impromptu interview. You’ll come out looking great and will be able to show internet viewers a lot more about what it takes to put on such a huge endeavor as Fairs and festivals. Greg Thompson has been a full time entertainer for over 30 years performing in shows and
on stages across the USA including major theme parks, cruise lines and special events. His background includes radio and TV as well. .
