Park, has a new scoutmaster – David Keil. Keil is a graduate of Villa Park schools, and has been involved in scouting since he was a boy. Although he does not have a son in the scouting movement, he feels obliged to give back to scouting. Keil stressed that scout- ing is a “boy-led, parent-support- ed organization,” and that his job is to delegate parent leadership.
His goal is to make scouting more visible in the community. To that end, he has formed a Boy Scout color guard to participate in events and ceremonies. This year marks the 50th an-
Founder. The Star is red, white and blue, and indicates to all USO guests that the Orange Elks honor their sacrifices and service, and support the motto “As long as there is a vet, the Orange Elks will never forget.”

niversary of Troop 850, during which time 96 of its members have achieved Eagle status. Cur- rently, 10 more boys have earned the “Life Scout” level, and are on their way to becoming Eagles. As
a part of the troop program, “Ba- nana University” provides a train- ing weekend, when older scouts teach younger boys about leader- ship management. The weekend is supported by the Rotary Club of Villa Park, at a cost of approxi- mately $2,000. The troop meets at Cerro Villa
Middle School on the first Tues- day of the month. For more infor- mation, call (714) 758-5594.
You’re never too old to go to the prom
This year’s annual fundrais-
ing auction for Oakridge Private School in Orange was themed in the style of a 1980s high school prom. In January, students were surprised to see a banner in front of the school saying “Pa- tricia, will you go to prom with me?” Fred Burry, founder of the school, had hung the banner as an invitation for his wife Patri- cia.
Parents and their guests ar-
rived at the Black and Gold Club in Yorba Linda decked out in
their 80s fashions, sporting neon colors, parachute pants, and big shoulder pads a la Madonna and Flashdance. The music of that era played, attendees danced and enjoyed lively bidding on silent auction baskets and unique live auction projects made by each classroom. One popular and un- usual auction item was a day of baking with fourth grade teacher Laura Wolfe, who enjoys the reputation of being an amazing baker. All proceeds from the evening support the school.
