SEGRO, the Slough Trading Estate owner that is a leading developer of modern warehousing, light industrial and data centre properties, saw its share price rise 11% in January after some favourable reports.
It began a major regeneration programme at the Westway Estate in Park Royal after being granted full planning consent last year for an expansive redevelopment programme on the site it wholly owns. Working alongside Ealing Council and TfL, it will lead the regeneration of the estate including six new industrial units to be built speculatively.
During the month SEGRO also acquired a 30-acre site in Hayes from Nestlé, bought a 51,300 sq m prime logistics facility in Marseille for €35 million, signed
a pre-let (in a joint venture) for a 150,000 sq ft unit with DHL Express and let a speculatively developed unit in Slough to All Print Supplies.
Star performance in the region’s table was the 33% rise for Oxford BioMedica, the leading gene and cell therapy company. Its recent interim management statement revealed new contracts with Novartis worth up to $90 million over the next three years, which CEO John Dawson described as a “transformational” agreement endorsing its unique expertise and capabilities.
It also acquired the freehold of the Windrush Court office and laboratory facilities for £3.2m in a move to consolidate its entire activities on one site.

Young entrepreneurs compete for place in 2015 finals
To support young business people in 2015 chartered accountants Haines Watts has launched its Haines Watts Young Entrepreneur of the Year competition
Jane Gregory, one of the judges at Haines Watts, said: “There are more young people than ever before starting their own businesses and we’re looking for the rising stars of the Thames Valley region to step forward and join their peers in competing for the 2015 title.”
To enter, which is free, go online at
www.hwye.co.uk and submit a good business case as to why you should win. As well as cash prizes, winners also receive a year’s free business mentoring from a partner at Haines Watts. Visitors to the HWYE website will find online support on offer as well, such as helpful tips and a blog.
Competition applicants must have been in business for over a year and live or work in the Thames Valley, defined as Berkshire, Hampshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Oxfordshire. The competition is open to anyone who is under 36 years old on July 31, 2015 and there is no lower age limit.
Last year’s finalists were David Adams of Pennyhill Timber, who won the overall title; Andrew Baker of Play2Give, Antony Holeksa of Learn to Dance and Sian Brennan-Todd of Dance & Cheer 49. They told Haines Watts how much they benefited from taking part in the competition.
Adams said: “I enjoyed being part of the HWYE competition and found meeting with the other finalists and guest speakers very motivating. I've always been interested in

hearing about other people’s journeys in business and there was some really good advice on offer from the speakers that I've been putting into practice, both at work and at home.”
So if you’re interested, why not enter today? If this isn't you but you know someone who might like to apply, pass on the contact details below.
Semi-finalists will be chosen prior to a 'grand final' – with an overall winner – in the autumn.
