CLASS NOTES
over again. OES definitely prepared me academically for West Point. I visited Laurie Huang ’10 and Leah Metcalf ’10 over Columbus Day Weekend. It was nice to see familiar faces and to be in civilian clothes. To help keep me entertained, I’m
working to earn German Armed Forces Badge for Military Proficiency (GPB). On Veterans Day, one of the few days I have off, I was road marching with a rucksack 12 kilometers in two hours. Even though West Point is a military school, there isn’t a lot of military train- ing during the academic year. Going for the GPB is one way to get more military training during the year. Overall I’m having fun at West Point.

I’m enjoying college so much! I am taking 18 credits, which is keeping me really busy. My honors college literature class reminds me a lot of English classes at OES in terms of the format and expectations. I’ve got a great group of friends
already, and we all get together on the weekends for movie nights and sleepovers. It’s wonderful when all your friends live right down the hall. It’s shocking how many people are
at University of Oregon, though. One thing I really miss is the tight commu- nity at OES. It’s bizarre not knowing all the people in my class, much less in my grade. Shout out to Spectrum and Green Team and all my friends at OES! I hope all is well.
Jake Sullivan ’10
My summer was a whirlwind of travel and temperature extremes. After a trip to Israel with Birthright, I camped out at the edge of Exit Glacier in Seward, Alaska, and worked with other students to extend the Exit Glacier Trail. Now I’m interning in the office of Senator Jeff Merkley in Washington, DC, and in two and a half weeks (by the time this magazine comes out) I will be in Cambodia or Laos with my family, doing some kind of volunteer work and getting sunburned.
