IT’S SPRINGTIME AT RHS GARDEN WISLEY


isitors to Surrey’s flagship RHS Garden Wisley are marvelling at the colours and sizes of the butterflies flying amongst the flowers and fruit of the nectar plants in Wisley’s tropical glasshouse paradise. The tree ferns, tall palms, lush leafed creepers and dazzling flower displays give an air of expectation and drama – like walking in a jungle. Butterflies like the striking Blue Morpho, the Giant Owl, the

King Swallowtail and the colourful Malay Lacewing settle amongst the tropical plants – and if you’re really lucky one might even land on you! You can see the butterflies feeding at special feeding stations and learn about their life cycle in the puparium. A new addition for 2015 is the display of sculptures in the garden depicting butterflies and caterpillars, by Shere- based Alison Catchlove, inspired by her


visits in previous years of Butterflies in the Greenhouse. Aside from this year’s butterfly event, on until Sunday 8th March and a regular event in the Wisley calendar, the Glasshouse is always worth a visit with its world-class display, showcasing the Royal Horticultural Society’s extensive tender plant collection, comprising more than 5,000 taxa, including difficult to grow, rare and endangered species.
