Students walk the red carpet, just like the Hollywood stars!
A
spiring actors and fi lm-makers from the Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts (PQA) in Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and
Rochester walked down the red carpet at the premiere of their fi lm projects at The Showcase Cinema Bluewater. Students at PQA receive training every
Saturday in fi lm and television alongside modules in musical theatre and comedy and drama, and students worked for many months writing, shooting, acting and editing their short fi lms for the screening. Verity Rae Martin, Principal of PQA
Tonbridge, said: “It was fantastic to see all the students’ hard work showcased in such a glamorous event. From the smallest Poppet age four to the oldest Red everyone loves seeing themselves on the big screen and walking the Red Carpet!” Showcase Cinemas generously provided
the screen free of charge for this prestigious event and the students were able to invite family and friends to join them at their premiere, with the money raised from the
ticket price being donated to MediCinema, a charity which both Showcase Cinemas and PQA support. PQA Tunbridge Wells runs on Saturdays

Youth orchestra starts year with successful concert
Kent County Youth Orchestra performed works by Shostakovich, Elgar and Tchaikovsky at Mote Hall in Maidstone on the fi rst Saturday of 2015, conducted by Michael Seal, a former member who has gone on to be Associate Conductor of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra. The former Medway man conducted the orchestra in performances of Festive Overture by Shostakovich, Serenade for Strings and The Wand of Youth Suite No.1 by Elgar and Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.5. Orchestra Manager, Roger Wilson, said: “The concert was a great success and we were delighted to welcome one of our former members to conduct the young players of today, playing pieces that take Michael back to where he started.” Kent Music, founded in 1948, is a
registered education charity and one of the largest music education services in Europe. It delivers instrumental and vocal teaching to more than 14,000 students, employs some 200 peripatetic teachers both full-time and part-time, and organises music groups and summer schools.
