f you’re ready to make some positive changes to your life, you picked a great place to start! Welcome to our 2nd Annual Directory issue packed with local businesses and

practitioners who can help you reach your personal and pro- fessional goals for your best self. Sometimes you make the decision to change, to improve, to stop doing this (insert bad habit), to start doing that (insert good habit). Sometimes life makes the decision for you (a

loss, a close call, a bad diagnosis). No matter what the impetus, the new year always seems like a good time to start afresh, to commit to something better. In 2015 I’m committing to a stronger sense of style and a renewed commitment to better health. I am not a style maven or fashionista. I like comfort, ease, being casual. I’ve also been a bit of a tomboy and, at 52, am thinking that maybe it’s time to em- brace and enhance who I am with a bit more femininity. This came to my atten- tion, as things in life often do, through a series of serendipitous events and meet- ings, so I embraced it. This year, I hired Dawn Stebbing, a style consultant, to help me find my com- plementary colors and styles for hair, clothes and accessories. I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, but always pushed it off to when I might lose some weight or have more time or money to invest in such an activity. Making the decision to hire Dawn was a long time coming. I met her in 2012 and knew at that time I could benefit from her professional guidance. But I wasn’t sure what to expect, how much it would cost, if it would work, if I was ready. I didn’t know anyone who had worked with someone like Dawn and wasn’t sure if I fit the profile. Tired of waiting for life to propel me, I finally reached out and started the con-

versation with Dawn. Things progressed from there. Now, here I am writing about it—from the beginning, before I even know where I’ll end up or how it will go. I look at this personal makeover as something needed to help me usher in

a youthful middle age where I can add a stronger sense of personal style as I embrace this next chapter of my life. I also want to make healthy changes to my weight and diet as I progress down this path. It’s easy to keep putting things off, waiting for life to make decisions for us, not

doing anything for fear of failure or rejection, but it’s better to be the captain of your destiny and usher in the changes you want. “A year from now you will wish you had started today.” ~ Karen Lamb Here’s to your good health, your best self, peace in your heart and peace in

the world!
