ACA QUARTERLY MEMBERSHIP NEWSLETTER A/B/AB-26 Reunion Recap By Tim Black
The reunion was a big success with 73 people for the Sunday night dinner. We have some other folks join us over the weekend that could not stay for the dinner. Group pictures were
taken in front of our A-26 by those who attended using their own cameras. A big thank you to Jim giving us an
Reynolds for
update on the progress, back- ground, and future of 679. For those who could not attend, Jim’s plan, should something happen to him, is to have 679 donated to a museum that would keep the aircraft in good condition. He has this in his personal papers and his family knows these are
his
wishes. So, for those who had a question about what would happen down the road, I hope
this answers that question. If you have any other concerns, please contact Jim.
If you would like to do- nate to help in the restoration, please visit the A-26 Legacy Foundation website and do- nate through it. That way you donate to a non-profit organi- zation and get the tax write- off.
Thanks to George Mat- thews who gave a presentation and slide show of when he was flying from NKP. George’s son, Greg, made some coffee mugs with Invader emblems on the side to help raise money for the restoration. Randy Ry- man’s wife made pillows she donated to raise money for the restoration as well. The total donated to these amounted to $570. This money will be sent to Don Vogler at the A-26 Legacy Foundation.
The tip jar donations amounted to $286 which will be sent to Lee Griffin to be de- posited in our group account. As for when 679 will fly,
the restoration is progressing well and I would expect that she will fly next year. When we get word that she is ready to fly, I will send out an email and set up a time for all those interested in being there. It will be the same type of get to- gether as we did several years ago when a group of us visited Ft Worth to see how the res- toration was coming along. We’ll
get rooms at a hotel
so those coming can have a “mini” reunion.
The most important news to come out of this reunion is that we will start our every other year reunion schedule with this reunion, so the next reunion will be in 2016. The offer was presented to the group at the Sunday night din- ner for anyone who would like to plan and coordinate the next reunion to raise their hand. No one has stepped up to do the next reunion, so unless some- one does between now and the next reunion, we will combine with the ACA for all activities. We do this now, but have our dinner on Sunday night. If no one comes forward, there will be no Sunday night dinner. So all planning and coordination
will be through the ACA. We will not have a hostility suite either. Those attending
will
join with all other Comman- dos and we’ll use their hos- pitality suite as well. We can still enjoy getting together as a group.
I will volunteer to keep
everyone updated on any ac- tivities or group information that needs to be spread to our group. It would definitely help if all those who read this would send me your contact informa- tion so I can update our re- cords. If you already sent one to me for the reunion, there is no need to send another one. The emails I send out to this group go to 151 members. If someone wants to plan and coordinate the next reunion, please email me and I’ll get you the information needed to accomplish it. I want to thank Smitty
and Bruce for their assistance in planning and hosting this reunion. Also, thanks to Lee Griffin, who has maintained our fund account for many, many years. I will get with Lee to see what the account balance is after all invoices are paid for this reunion, and let everyone know how the group stands. We can decide how to use those funds later. As for now, this is all.
