technologies. But first things first. Chris told delegates that to have the right base for your activities is crucial. Important factors, says Chris, include paying attention to your branding, the website design, the detail on the page and generating plenty of content – this last was a key mantra throughout the day. He also discussed the psychology of web design, people’s attention span (short – no more than three clicks to get where they want to be). Also key to success, even before you start

using social media, is to regularly update your site, keeping it friendly and personal, raising your staff profile by getting them blogging and blogging regularly. There were things Not To Do as well; using duplicated content in more than one place, or using data about your properties that is on another site, or portal. Chris took the #SMM4PP delegates on a

tour of those now common but sometimes daunting words: content, blogging, using video, pushing content, the steep learning curve continued!

MOBILE MEDIA INCREASES SALES The colourful and lively event continued with Ian Laverty, bouncing onto the stage in his bright red shirt, setting the scene for another fast paced presentation. Sales & Marketing Director of Intelligent Mobile, Ian says that a simple website is no longer enough, agents need a complete mobile strategy if the want to become market leaders. Quoting Peter Fitzgerald, Country Sales Director for Google UK, Ian said, “Approximately 15 per cent of all web traffic is now mobile. (On smartphones and tablets). Not having a mobile website is like shutting down your website for one day every week.” By the end of this year, it is predicted that at least 50 per cent of adults in the UK will have a smartphone (iPhone etc) or a tablet (iPad etc) and will, therefore, expect to be able to access information in a mobile friendly format. There is more detail on Intelligent

Mobile’s approach to modern marketing elsewhere in this magazine, but the basic tenet is that most Apps limit your market.
