Following the conference session on social media given by Tracy Falke of Powershift Media at the PROPERTYdrum conference last September, dozens of PROPERTYdrum readers asked for a whole day on this trendy, but thorny subject. And on June 15th the first
dedicated Social Media Marketing Conference for property people took place in the very inspiring Savoy Place, home of the Institution of Technology and Engineering. Over 180 delegates
from across the UK (and Spain!) joined the conference, which began with a lively blast of music, flashing pictures and film. Tracy Falke, the American SMM guru, took the stage and the steep learning curve was underway.

No quarter was given to the shy or the
sleepy, the event was full-on from 9.30am until 5pm, with barely a breather, even at the breaks. Interaction was the name of the game and the first action required of delegates – in contrast to the usual pre- conference message – was: “Get your smartphones out!” The bright blue bird that has become one of the world’s best known images flew onto the screen with the conference’s unique hashtag: #SMM4PP and the command: “Tweet this!” “Social media,” said Tracy,
“is where your customers live, work and play, social media marketing is how we reach
them. It accounts for 22 per cent of all time spent online. What’s more, 75 per cent of the UK’s active
internet population access social media every day. Ageism doesn’t exist on the internet, the rise in usage is replicated across all age
groups, with one of the highest growth areas being the 65+ age group. The statistics poured on; 63 per cent of
companies say that social media has increased the effectiveness of their marketing. Fifity per cent say it increases customer satisfaction. Thirty-three per cent of small/medium businesses say it helps them get found online. It allows your business to be more visible to your customers, to rank higher on Google, to generate better qualified leads and to be an authority in your area.
