RAF Families’ Federation’s comments

Regional Armed Forces Covenant Coordinator, Nat Haynes comments on the partnership, “I have been involved with the Buckinghamshire Armed Forces Community Covenant Partnership (AFCC) since July 2013, and I have been very impressed from the start. It is great to see such hard work and dedication, not only from County Council officers, but also from the RAF Stations, force charities and all other interested parties that come together to form such a fully inclusive and hard working partnership. The success that the Buckinghamshire AFCC has had both in its AFCC Grant funding and also in its awards and recognition is due to the hard work of every member of the partnership.”

Comments from RAF stations Group Captain Burns from RAF Halton reported that “The Armed Forces Covenant has been fantastic in ensuring that RAF Halton and the civilian population within Buckinghamshire genuinely understand each other and work together. Service families face many of the same issues as our civilian counterparts in the County, and the enhanced relationship, services and support provided have been invaluable in recognising this and assisting; particularly during periods when my personnel have been deployed on operations. I look forward to continuing to develop this vital relationship, along our agreed 6 key themes, to the benefit of the whole community.”

Group Captain Clifford of RAF High Wycombe also adds, “The Armed Forces Community Covenant in Buckinghamshire goes from strength to strength. The engagement approach and support offered, not just financially, by all of those who actively support the Covenant make a real and tangible difference to service personnel of all ranks. The Covenant has also assisted the RAF in offering support back into the community. This year the provision of a first responder vehicle has enabled

our personnel to get out into the community on a volunteer basis to support the emergency services; a great team effort.”

Priorities going forward Buckinghamshire however are not resting on their laurels! During the summer, the partnership refreshed the action plan for the next year to ensure it remains focused and relevant. Here is a taster of some of the new priorities: • Work with schools to maximise the value of the Pupil Premium by encouraging registration of Service Children and promoting best practice in utilisation of funding.

• Investigate what support and activities could be offered to 16+ service children who may need assistance in skills and employment.

• Find a solution to better support veterans who are homeless and support them back into independent lives.
