were stolen from a builders’ yard in Rochester Road, Aylesford. The metal chain-link fencewas broken to gain entry. Thiswas heavy plant and itwas likely that several people and a vehiclewere involved. AToyota parked Oak Drive, Dion was
badly scratched. The windscreen wiper of a car parked in Trinity Court, Aylesfordwas damaged. Anumber of outbuildings at a power
station in Teston Road,Oamwere broken into and items taken.

Two facing
drug charges TWO menwere arrested following a police drugs raid in Pollyfield Close, Snodland. Officers seized substances sus- pected to be Class A and Class B drugs. A 50-year-old man from Snod-
land was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled drug and obstructing powers of search for drugs. A 22-year-old man, also from Snodland, was arrested on suspicion of supplying controlled drugs. PC Joe Breen said: “We routinely
carry out this type of enforcement and anyone who commits drug of- fences stands a very real chance of getting caught.We continue to ask anyone who suspects drug offences to be taking place to let us know so we can act and help keep commu- nities within Tonbridge and Malling safe and enjoyable places to live and work.”

RAFA fundraising efforts rewarded
THE Aylesford and Malling branch of the Royal Air Forces Association (RAFA) held a dinner to commemorate 19 years of fundraising to help families in need. Since its formation in1995 the branch has raised more than £150,000 for the association’s Wings Appeal, which supports serving and ex-RAF personnel and their families. The guest of honour at the celebration at Maidstone’s Grange Moor
Hotel,was RAFA national president Air Marshal Sir Dusty Miller, who presented the branch chairman Ted Bates with a RAFA Central Council certificate of congratulations. Much of the money came fromeight years of charity concerts
provided by the Central Band of the RAF, andWg Cdr Duncan Stubbs, principal director of music, RAF,was also a guest. Sir Dusty also presented certificates to Sylvia Bonner, who raised £10,000, and her husband Terry for 15 years of support to the branch.
Lost designer frock turns up
A WOMAN who lost a £500 “Sex and the City” dress on a train has been reunited with it after a pub- lic appeal. The owner of the designer
frock had been travelling be- tween Bromley South and Ash- ford; but left the train at West Malling when she experienced a panic attack. British Transport Police offi-
cers investigating the suspected theft appealed for information about a man and woman they wished to trace. However, the white dress – identical to one worn by Sarah
Jessica Parker in one of the pop- ular films – was returned by a woman who came forward, say- ing she had found it and had been trying to contact the owner.
Detective Sgt Leigh Marshall
said: “We are committed to re- ducing the theft of personal property on the rail network and will always fully investi- gate all reports we receive. “Thankfully this case has a
happy ending and the dress will be returned to the victim, for whom it holds great sentimental value.”
Chippie’s bid
PAPA’s Barn in London Road,Dit- ton is angling to be named the best fish and chip shop in Britain. The chippie has just been voted Independent Takeaway Fish and Chip Shop of the Year in London and the South East in the regional round and now goes forward to compete with nine others across the UK for the national title. Run by brothers Theo and Michael Papa-Adams, the fish bar began life in a former farm shop and was rebuilt after the building was destroyed by fire four years ago.
The competition, organised by Seafish, culminates in the national judging in January.
