Blake Morgan now sponsoring Thames Valley and Solent 250s
Law firm Blake Morgan is the new sponsor of the Thames Valley 250, having already confirmed it is supporting the Solent 250, the equivalent listing on the south coast.
Both lists are compiled by The Business Magazine – and both lists are now supported by the same three sponsors - Blake Morgan, Grant Thornton and HSBC.
Publisher David Murray said: “It’s great that we have synergy between the two listings – together they represent a multi-billion-pound grouping of the south’s top private businesses.”
Last month, business leaders gathered in the spectacular surroundings of Oxford University’s Museum of Natural History to celebrate the launch of law firm Blake Morgan.
More than 200 guests enjoyed drinks, canapés, speeches and a string quartet at the event, which followed the creation of Blake Morgan through the merger of long-standing Oxford law firms Blake Lapthorn and Morgan Cole in July.
Mike Wilson, senior partner for the Thames Valley, told guests: “The firm may be new and some of the faces will be too, but its parents,
Blake Lapthorn and Morgan Cole, have both been built on the same traditional values – excellent client service and close client relationships. Nothing will change there.
“Blake Morgan will continue to build on its strong foundations in Oxford, particularly working with more entrepreneurs and owner- managed businesses.
“We know that relationships and close working with our communities is important. We want to make a difference to their communities and of course their business communities.
“We are proud to be able to build on the heritage of the respective legacy firms. Both firms have leading lawyers in many fields of practice in the region.
“This merger provides real opportunities to offer an enhanced breadth and depth of service. We are looking forward to the challenges of the next chapter in our history.”
The launch event took place on the day that the prestigious The Legal 500 directory, which recommends the UK’s top lawyers, singled out Blake Morgan as having “the strongest presence in the Thames Valley”.

Morgan Cole and Blake Lapthorn both have a rich heritage in the Oxford area. Morgan Cole traces its lineage through brothers Maurice and Raymond Buxton Cole, who established their Oxford office in 1945 – and to this day their descendants John and David Cole work for the firm. Blake Lapthorn merged with Linnells, a leading local firm for more than 90 years, in 2003.
